HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY. – The UIC volleyball team (19-7, 8-4 HL) saw its seven-match win streak draw to a close on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 (19-25, 17-25, 23-25) loss at Northern Kentucky (12-12, 5-7 HL). The Norse put down 53 kills to UIC's 37, hitting .317 while keeping the Flames to a .144 clip.
Match Highlights
Set One
- The Norse used a 5-0 run to take a 16-12 lead in the first frame, but the Flames pulled back within one after a block from Brookah Palmer and Tatyana Ndekwe, as well as a Palmer kill, 17-16.
- A trio NKU kills and a Flames attack error put the Norse ahead by five, 22-17.
- Kiera James put down a kill, but NKU grabbed the next two to get to set point, 24-18.
- Clara Lamb was able to get the Flames one more, but the Norse got the termination, and the set, on the next point, 25-19.
- James put down six kills in the first frame, but five attack errors compared to just two for the Norse proved to be the difference maker.
Set Two
- The home team took another early lead in set two, 13-8.
- More kills for the Norse as well as a pair of blocks extended the lead, 17-11, forcing the Flames to call timeout.
- UIC was unable to put a stop to the Norse offense, dropping set two, 25-17.
- NKU hit at a clip of .342 in the second frame, compared to .156 hitting for the Flames.
Set Three
- Early offense from Michelle Glover gave the Flames a 10-7 lead to start set three, but the Norse tied the match at 11 with a 3-0 run.
- Tied at 16, the Flames went up by four after a trio of Norse errors and a block from Clara Lamb and Glover, 20-16.
- NKU responded, taking the next four to once again bring the set to a draw.
- A service ace gave the Norse the lead, 22-21, but Glover send over a quick tip to tie the set at 22.
- James and Ndekwe came up with a big block to give UIC the one-point lead, but the Norse took the next three unanswered to take set, 25-23.
