Freshmen Lead Flames at Miami

Tiana Jackson and Shelby Case net personal-best showings in loss to RedHawks

OXFORD, Ohio – Freshmen Tiana Jackson and Shelby Case each put up personal-best showings to lead UIC's offensive efforts as the Flames (0-7) fell 85-35 on Tuesday at Miami (4-2). Jackson finished the day with 13 points, while Case turned in six. Jackson also finished with four rebounds and shot 75 percent (3-of-4) from the free-throw line.

First Half Highlights
  • Miami pulled out to a 6-0 lead at the start, until Abreanna Lake was able to drive in a layup and get the Flames on the board, 6-2. The RedHawks took another seven to finish the first quarter with a 13-2 lead.
  • Ahsha Spencer put in a pair of buckets for the Flames in the early minutes of the second quarter, 18-6. Miami grew its lead with a 7-0 run, until Tiana Jackson put an end to the streak with a short-range jumper, 25-8.
  • Lake was able to lift one in for two, but the RedHawks sped off with another eight points, 35-10. Jackson laid one up to finish out UIC's scoring in the first half, 35-12.
Second Half Highlights
  • The Flames scored first in the second half off a free-throw from Jada Nneji. Back-to-back jumpers for the RedHawks extended their lead, 39-13.
  • Shelby Case took over on offense for the Flames, grabbing their next three buckets, 46-19.
  • Jackson rattled off the next seven for UIC, including three makes from the charity stripe, 49-26. The RedHawks sank a late jumper, putting the tally at 51-26 at the end of the third period.
  • Kimeira Burks scored first for the Flames in the final quarter, and later helped out Jackson with an assist, 61-30.
  • Kiarra Thompson put one in from downtown, but the RedHawks scored just six seconds later, 66-33.
  • The fourth quarter ended up being Miami's best, as it outscored the Flames 34-9 to finish with an 85-35 win.

  • Jackson's 13-point showing was her first double-digit showing as a Flame.
  • Kiarra Thompson finished with five points, including a perfect 2-of-2 trip to the line.
