Flames Host NIU in Season's Final Home Meet

UIC Looks to Remain Undefeated at Home

UIC will square off against Northern Illinois for the second of three times this season as the Flames host the Huskies in the home finale Sunday.  The meet will start at noon at the UIC Dorin Forum.

Earlier this year, the Flames placed first in a tri-meet at NIU with Bowling Green.  The team score of 195.250 remains UIC's best of the season to date.  It was part of a streak of three straight meets with a score of 195 or higher, a mark the Flames have achieved four times overall this year.

Around the Rotations
  • Kayla Baddeley has the team's top average on vault and beam.  Her vault last week of 9.875 was a career best.
  • Serena Baker has turned in five straight bars sets worth at least 9.800, topping out at 9.875.  She leads the team, and is one of three Flames in the top five on bars in the Midwest Independent Conference.
  • Alisa Sheremeta leads the MIC on floor.  She did not perform on floor last week due to an injury, but is expected to return to floor, along with bars and beam, Sunday.
  • Miki Northern, the team's leader in the all-around, and fellow seniors Riley Mahoney, Jenna Squillo, Allison Broad, and Sabrina Tomassini, will be competing in their final home meet.
Last Time Out
  • UIC won its sixth straight meet with a convincing victory over MIC rival Southeast Missouri.
  • Sheremeta won beam for the first time, scoring 9.825.
  • Ashley Albrecht picked up her first win on floor with a career high 9.875.
  • Baddeley's career high on vault was joined by a career high-tying bars set and a new career best in the all-around.
Scouting Northern Illinois
  • Since the tri-meet with UIC and Bowling Green, NIU has won their last three meets.
  • The Huskies posted a season high 195.700 in their meet last week at Ball State.
  • NIU has improved their season average to 194.525, good for 35th in the nation and two spots behind UIC.
  • NIU has the MAC's top beam and floor squads.  Anna Martucci and Ally Ferber are the conference's top two individuals on floor.
  • The teams will also cross paths at the Illinois Classic on March 9.
