CHICAGO -- UIC's scheduled game at Iowa for Tuesday, March 12 has been canceled, but the Flames have secured a home game for that afternoon at Granderson Stadium against the Chicago State Cougars at 4:05 p.m. CT.

The Flames (2-8) and Cougars (3-8) split a doubleheader at Granderson Stadium on Friday, March 8. Bolstered by magnificent effort on the mound from starting pitcher Jacob Key, UIC took the opener, 5-1. Key threw his second consecutive complete game as he scattered six hits and allowed just a single unearned run. The junior struck out six and did not walk a batter for the third straight time, extending his streak of consecutive innings pitched without issuing a walk to 24.0. In Friday's victory, Tom Farrell hit an RBI double, while David Becker and Joshua Figueroa also drove in runs.

Chicago State overcame an early 2-0 deficit and scored seven unanswered runs to come away with the nightcap, 8-4. Chris Papapietro's RBI triple in the top of the seventh (UIC was the visiting team in game two) helped the Flames pull to within three runs, but they could not get closer.

Offensively, Matt Bottcher batted a team-high .500 in the doubleheader Friday with five hits in 10 at-bats. The Romeoville, Ill., native scored two of UIC's five runs in the first game and came back to collect a season-high three hits in the second contest. On the season Bottcher leads the Flames with a batting average of .359 and 14 hits. His on-base percentage, .390, is tied with Scott Ota for tops on the team. Ota leads UIC in runs scored (8) and he is tied for the team lead in RBI (5) with Papapietro.

Live stats will be available for Tuesday's game via Statbroadcast.

UIC soon begins Horizon League play at home with a three-game series against Oakland on March 15-17.
