NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The UIC softball team (7-13) grabbed a pair of wins in day two of the Belmont Invitational, soundly defeating Purdue Fort Wayne (5-13) by a score of 10-3 before finishing off the day with a 1-0 win over host Belmont (13-8).
Allie Trudeau pitched a gem against the Bruins, allowing just four hits while striking out a season-high five in her fourth complete-game victory of the season.
UIC started the day off with a 10-3 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne (5-13). The Flames put up a nine spot in the first inning off eight walks and a three-run single from
Skylee James to create a deficit the Mastodons could not erase.
Game Highlights vs. Purdue Fort Wayne
- Lexi Watts, Skylee James and Kayla Wedl all walked to load the bases in UIC's first at bat. Tara McElligott was hit by a pitch to score Watts, and Alyssa Griman, Maddie Spinks, Schyler Ek and Emily Wetzel all walked to put the Flames up 6-0.
- Watts stepped up to the plate for the second time in the inning and drew another walk, and James followed with a single that emptied the bases, giving UIC a 9-0 lead after their first at bat.
- Purdue Fort Wayne scored in the bottom of the second after two walks advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single and a steal, 9-2.
- Ek led off the third with a walk and advanced to third after a throwing error on her steal to two. Watts tripled to score her, putting UIC up by eight, 10-2.
- The Mastodons got their final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot over the right field fence, 10-3.

- The Flames outhit the Mastodons 5-3. James had a pair, while Watts, Wedl and Griman made up the remaining three.
- James also led with three RBI, followed by Watts with two. McElligott, Griman, Spinks, Ek and Wetzel had one apiece.
- Karissa Frazier got the start and the win to improve to 2-3. The redshirt senior allowed just one hit and two earned runs in 3.0 innings of work. Marley Hanlon came on to pitch the remaining four innings, allowing one earned run off two hits.
Game Highlights vs. Belmont
- The Flames got to work in their first at bat, as Watts led off with a walk, moved to second on a Cassie Kaelber bunt and went to third on the James fielder's choice, allowing her to score on a deep sac fly from Wedl, 1-0.
- UIC loaded up the bases with one out in the top of the sixth with an error and a pair of singles, but the next two batters struck out swinging to end the opportunity for the Flames.
- The Bruins threatened in the bottom of the seventh, with a one-out single, but the Flames turned a double play to end threat and take home the win.
Facts & Figures vs. Belmont
- UIC held the edge in hits, 5-4. Kaelber paced the Flames with two, while James, Griman and Ek had one apiece.
- Wedl had the sole RBI off her sacrifice fly in the first.
- Trudeau improved to 4-6 on the season with the complete-game win, allowing zero earned runs and four hits.
