INDIANAPOLIS – Sophomore Jada Nneji of the UIC women's basketball team has been named to the 2019 Horizon League All-Defensive Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Nneji wins the first All-League accolade of her career, and the first for the Flames since 2016.

Nneji ingrained herself as a staple in UIC's defense, racking up 70 blocks in her second year with the Flames to rank second all-time in UIC single-season history. In addition to leading the team in blocks, Nneji also paced the squad in offensive rebounds (64) and was runner-up on the team in defensive rebounds, pulling down 96 defensive boards for the Flames.

Nneji set both a Horizon League and UIC single-game record on Jan. 13 with 13 blocks against Detroit Mercy. The sophomore also added 12 rebounds against the Titans for a rare blocks/rebounds double-double. The standout forward ended the season leading the Horizon League and ranking eighth in the nation in blocks per game, stopping an average of 2.8 shots per game. Nneji tallied 15 multi-block showings this season and blocked five or more on five occasions.

The Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada native also made valuable contributions on offense, recording four double-digit scoring efforts and six double-digit rebounding efforts, while finishing with three double-doubles. Nneji finished the year shooting 36 percent overall, third-highest on the squad.
