@UIC_XCTF Continues to Collect Top Marks in California

Flames hit three meets Friday

CALIFORNIA -- UIC was represented in three different meets on Friday, all in California, as is continued a busy weekend of competition. The Flames had one runner at Long Beach State's Beach Invitational and multiple entries at both the Mt. SAC Relays and Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational.

The bulk of UIC's action on Friday took place at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Janine Fajardo kicked things off by running in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Fajardo posted a time of 15.68 seconds.

Later, Michael Meskill registered an outdoor PR in the men's 400-meter dash, getting home in 48.99 seconds.He placed 36th out of 98 participants in the event. Shaun Wollenweber, the reigning Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week, showed how he can excel on the track as well with a PR of his own in the 100-meter dash. Wollenweber clocked a 10.89 to finish in the top half of that event.

Wollenweber also had the best overall placement for the Flames on Friday with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump. He posted a mark of 14.87 meters in the finals. The event featured 47 competitors.

UIC was represented in both the women's and men's 800-meter run at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday. Kayla Isom notched a PR performance in 2:13.18 in the women's event and freshman Joshua English checked in at 1:54.16, an outdoor PR by more than four seconds.

Jakob Mogorovic ran the men's 400-meter hurdles in 54.84 seconds, good for 24th overall in a field of 43.

Meskill, Mogorovic, Sean Barber and English teamed up to run a 4x400 meter relay for the Flames and the squad posted a time of 3:17.14. That was the fastest mark of the season for the group.

Finally, UIC had three participants in the 1,500-meter runs at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Alex Bashqawi went in 3:54.76, while Brixton Rill clocked a 4:02.16. Allison Hansen competed in the women's event and finished in 4:46.22.

Over in Torrance, Calif., the Flames had three runners entered into events at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday. Freshman Destiny Tomlin posted a time of 57.44 seconds in the women's 400-meter dash, a PR. In the men's 400-meter event, Barber posted a PR and clocked a 51.02 and Darryl Harlan also turned in his personal-best in 51.55.

Martin Skucas competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Beach Invitational on Friday. He posted a terrific effort and finished seventh in a PR time of 9:30.15. The sophomore shaved more than 17 seconds off his previous top time.

The California contingent will close the trip at the Beach Invitational on Saturday. Other Flames will compete close to home at the DePaul Invitational, which is being held at Lane Stadium.
