FAIRBORN, Ohio – Wright State jumped out front early for the second time in as many days and the Raiders didn't look back en route to an 11-3 victory over UIC.
Sean Dee collected a career-high three hits, including his first career triple, to lead the offense, while
Derrick Patrick launched his second home run of the season for the Flames (18-18, 11-8 Horizon League). JD Orr had three hits and two RBI for the Raiders (31-13, 13-7 Horizon League).
How It Happened
- The Raiders led 3-0 after four innings when the Flames struck for the first time in the top of the fifth. Patrick led off the frame with a solo home run before Dee tripled to center field. Two batters later, Matt Bottcher picked up an RBI on a ground out to pull UIC within a run. Wright State responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, two of which came on a two-run home run from Seth Gray.
- Down by five runs, UIC scratched out another tally in the top of the eighth. Bottcher was hit by a pitch to begin the frame. He later scored when Ryan Hampe notched a sacrifice fly to make it 7-3 in favor of the home team. The Flames would not get any closer.
Notable
- Scott Ota's streak of 20 consecutive games with a hit ended Saturday. He did reach base safely on a fielder's choice so he extended that streak to 21 games.
- Derrick Patrick now owns the team's longest hitting streak at three games.
- Sean Dee became the seventh different UIC batter to record at least three hits in a game this season. Ota has done it the most at seven times; he has three hits six times and four hits once.
- Ryan Hampe has at least one RBI in three consecutive games and in 10 of the last 12.
On Deck
- The series will conclude on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
