DES MOINES, Iowa and RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Six different UIC Flames represented the men's track and field team between Thursday afternoon and early Saturday evening at a pair of Midwest meets.

Alex Bashqawi kicked off the weekend by qualifying to represent UIC at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday. The graduate student participated in the 1,500-meter run and posted a time of 4:12.38.

On Friday, Shaun Wollenweber and Jakob Mogorovic entered the Cougar Invitational hosted by Concordia University Chicago. Wollenweber qualified for the triple jump at the Drake Relays, however an academic conflict prevented him from traveling to Des Moines. Instead, he won the triple jump with a mark of 14.33 meters and placed second in the 100-meter dash in 10.96 seconds.

Mogorovic was also an event winner at Concordia, as he took the top spot in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 54.17 seconds, which was his best mark of the season.

On Saturday, Mogorovic joined Michael Meskill, Sean Barber and Joshua English on the Blue Oval in Des Moines to run the 4x400-meter relay. In below-freezing temperatures and rainy conditions, the Flames clocked a time of 3:20.58 to finish fourth in the University section. Mogorovic led the crew with a split of 48.4 seconds.

The Flames will next head to Youngstown, Ohio, where they will compete in the 2019 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, May 3-5.
