CHICAGO -- UIC will compete against a pair of local rivals from the Missouri Valley Conference on Saturday, April 6, when it travels to Normal, Ill., for the Redbird Invitational at the Redbird Track Complex. In addition to the hosts from Illinois State, the Loyola Ramblers will be in attendance on Saturday.
The Redbird Invitational begins with field events at 10 a.m. CT. The action on the track is scheduled to get underway at noon. Live results will be available throughout the meet and can be accessed

Last week the Flames visited Eastern Illinois for the Big Blue Classic, which was shortened as a result of inclement weather in Charleston, Ill. Those who were able to compete saw some good progress in the first outdoor meet of the 2019 campaign. Among the highlights senior Allison Hansen ran fourth in the 5K 18:06.56, just ahead of teammate Ai Kaisho, who ran fifth in 18:18.91. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, veteran
Jakob Mogorovic was third overall in 55.49.
Shaun Wollenweber picked up where he left off during the indoor season with a second-place finish in the men's long jump.at 6.70 meters. On Saturday, he qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash with a preliminary time of 10.99 seconds, but the final heat fell victim to the weather. Janine Fajardo qualified for the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 15.80 seconds, but the final was not contested before the meet was called.
Earlier this week UIC received word that graduate student
Alex Bashqawi was named the
Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Season. He will participate in the 1,500-meter and 800-meter runs on Saturday.
