INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC redshirt senior Shaun Wollenweber has been selected to participate in the triple jump at the NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships West Preliminary, May 23-25. The West Preliminary will take place at Sacramento State in Sacramento, Calif.

Wollenweber's event is scheduled to be held at Hornet Stadium on Saturday, May 25 at 8:30 p.m. CT. It is the final field event of the preliminary meet. Streaming coverage will be available through FloTrack. Live results will also be available for the meet.

Wollenweber is one of 48 student-athletes to qualify for the triple jump. His qualifying mark, 15.11 meters, was achieved at the Beach Invitational on April 20. He won the event at four different meets this spring, including the Horizon League Championship on May 5 with a mark of 14.62 meters. He also was the top performer at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, Cougar Invitational and Illinois Twilight. The Plano, Ill., native's effort at the Illinois Twilight (15.10 meters) helped garner Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week honors.

His outdoor career-best effort outdoors in the triple jump is 15.14 meters. That came at the Benedictine University Eagle Relays in 2017. Wollenweber's overall best mark in the triple jump came indoors at the 2019 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championship, where he captured the crown with a mark of 15.30 meters.

This is the second time that Wollenweber has qualified for the West Preliminary, also doing so in 2017. That year he posted a mark of 14.68 meters at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.

The qualifiers out of these two regions - the East Preliminary is held in Jacksonville, Fla. - will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
