CHICAGO – UIC student-athletes continue to flex their strength in the classroom, turning in yet another impressive academic semester in spring 2019.
As a department, UIC's student-athletes put together a cumulative GPA of 3.14 for the second-straight semester. Forty-three Flames earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages, while 115 student-athletes received Dean's List distinction, which requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher. A total of 208 Flames finished the semester with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, amassing to 63 percent of UIC's student-athlete population.
"Our department is incredibly proud of another strong performance by our student-athletes in the classroom," athletic director
Garrett Klassy said. "Their consistent successes in both academics and competition is a true statement to their hard work and dedication to this program."
Women's golf took home the highest team GPA at 3.63, with three of its members turning in a perfect 4.0 GPA. Men's tennis finished with the top men's team GPA, at 3.58, highlighted by four of its 10 member achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Fifty-three student-athletes received their diplomas at spring graduation, and of those 53, 22 graduated with honors (3.5 or higher cumulative GPA). Two Flames graduated with perfect 4.0 cumulative GPAs -
Kailash Panchapakesan of Men's Tennis and
Riley Mahoney from the women's gymnastics squad. Panchapakesan completed his biological sciences degree in just three years, while Mahoney graduated with a B.S. in Finance.
