YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- UIC wrapped up the 2019 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday and the Flames captured two event titles on the final day of the three-day competition. Kayla Isom set the Farmers National Bank Field Record during the meet en route to winning the women's 800-meter run and
Shaun Wollenweber captured the crown in the men's triple jump.
Isom first set the facility record in the 800-meter run in her preliminary heat on Saturday in a time of 2:11.46. On Sunday, the sophomore won the event final in 2:11.96 to pick up 10 team points for the Flames. She was also the anchor on UIC's 4x400 relay team alongside Destiny Tomlin, Roma Siddiqui and Rachel McKenzie. The group finished fourth in a time of 3:58.13.
On Saturday, Tomlin qualified for the finals of the 400-meter dash. The newcomer took part in the decisive heat on Sunday and claimed sixth place in 57.81 seconds.
Wollenweber had a busy slate on Sunday. He won the triple jump with a winning mark of 14.62 meters. He was part of UIC's 4x100 relay team that finished third in 42.54 seconds. In the prelims, he achieved a PR in the 100-meter dash at 10.83 seconds and he finished fifth in the final on Sunday in 10.89 seconds.
Alex Bashqawi was the top qualifier in the 800-meter run and in the final on Sunday, he placed second overall in 1:53.15, a PR. He qualified fourth in the 1,500-meter run and took second in that race as well on Sunday, crossing the line in 3:54.77.
In other men's races on Sunday,
Jakob Mogorovic finished third in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles at 54.03 seconds, which was his top mark of the season.
Michael Meskill and
Darryl Harlan were in the finals of the men's 400-meter dash. Meskill ran seventh in 50.31 seconds and Harlan was eighth in 50.41 seconds.
