Flames Wrap Up Day 1 of UIC Fall Invitational

UIC posts a combined 12-2 record in first action of the season

CHICAGO -- The UIC women's tennis teams took to the courts for the first time in 2019 Friday as the Flames wrapped up the first day of competition at the UIC Fall Invitational.
 
As a team, the Flames posted a 11-1 singles record and a 1-1 mark in doubles competition. Action on Friday between UIC, Valparaiso and Chicago featured one round of doubles and two rounds of singles.
 
Lucie Prochazkova, Karyna Bihel, Izzy Marshall and Nell Arendt all posted perfect 3-0 records to lead UIC Friday. Prochazkova and Bihel teamed up in doubles to defeat the Valparaiso duo of O. Czerwonka/Jhaveri, 6-2. In singles, Prochazkova picked up a pair of 6-0, 6-1 wins over Pukhaeva (Chicago State) and C. Czerwonka (Valparaiso).
 
Bihel wrapped up her perfect day with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Borodina (CSU) and a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Tabanera (VU).
 
Arendt went 3-0 in singles action with straight sets victories over Sysouvanh of Valparaiso (6-3, 6-2) and Andres of Chicago State (6-1, 6-0). Additionally, the sophomore defeated Borodina of Chicago State in a single set, 8-3.
 
Marshall wrapped up her perfect day with wins over Dukic (CSU – 7-5, 6-4), Sysouvanh (CSU – 6-2, 6-0) and Pukhaeva (CSU – 6-2, 6-4).
 
Also in competition, Lejla Colic won her lone singles match over Schoolcraft of Valparaiso, 4-6, 7-5, 10-5. She and Georgia Gulin fell in a doubles tiebreaker, 7-6(5), while Gulin dropped her lone singles match, 6-4, 7-6(4).
 
The Flames conclude competition at the UIC Fall Invitational on Saturday.
