Flames Claim Wins over IUPUI, Cleveland State

UIC Sweeps Three-Way Dual; Returns to Pool Saturday

UIC had numerous event winners and a plethora of top-three finishes in a three-way dual meet Friday night.  Felix LaFortune, Luke Hutchinson, and Danny Sivak all won multiple events to lead the Flames' men to a 158-141 win over Cleveland State.  Cydney Liebenberg and Lily Culp were double winners for the women, who topped CSU 206-91, and defeated IUPUI 183-117.

Both Flames squads remained undefeated at UIC Natatorium.  The 206 points put up by the women against the Vikings was a season high.

Event Winners – Men
  • Felix LaFortune was a double winner on the diving boards.  He set a season high and NCAA Zone qualifying mark of 308.5 on the 1-meter board.  He also surpassed the zone mark on the 3-meter board with a score of 325.95.
  • Luke Hutchinson won the 1650 free by over 20 seconds.  He also won the 200 fly.
  • Jacob Cunningham was the winner in the 200 free.
  • Danny Sivak won the 100 back by a full second.  His margin of victory in the 200 back was smaller, but still comfortable at three-tenths.
Event Winners – Women Top Performances – Men
  • Andrew Lewarchick had second-place finishes on both diving boards, and Ryan Murphy was third twice to give UIC two diving sweeps.
  • Josh Dellorto was third in a tightly bunched 200 free.  He took second in the 100 free.
  • Bryce Wyma, Owen Zant, and Frank Errichiello went 3-4-5 in the 100 back.
  • Ben Gabbey took second in the 100 breast.
  • Kyle Lewarchick placed third in the 200 fly and second in the 200 IM.
  • After swimming 500 yards, Jacob Cunningham was second by just 0.02 seconds.  Hutchinson was third.
  • Sasia came in second in the 100 fly.
Top Performances – Women Relays – Men
  • In the 200 medley relay, Danny Sivak, Ben Gabbey, Gabriele Sasia, and Jeff Wiedoff combined for a first place finish.
  • Sivak, Bryce Wyma, Eric Weng, and Wiedoff held off Cleveland State to win the 200 free relay.
Relays – Women Up Next
  • Day Two of the meet will be Saturday.
  • Separately-scored dual meets between each of the teams will begin at 11 am.
