Burks Impresses at Milwaukee

Freshman tallies career-high 19 points in 71-55 loss to Panthers

MILWAUKEE – Freshman Kimeira Burks gave her strongest performance of the season so far, posting a career-high 19 points off a personal-best four threes, as the Flames (2-16, 1-6 HL) fell 71-55 to Milwaukee (6-11, 3-3 HL) in Friday afternoon's Horizon League contest.

First Half Highlights
  • Kimeira Burks scored in the game's first possession after UIC won the tip, but Milwaukee jumped out to a 9-2 lead after a trio of threes. Burks helped close the gap with a three of her own, 9-5.
  • The Flames put together a 6-0 run that featured free throws from Abreanna Lake and layups from Tylah Lampley and Burks to tie the game at 11. Milwaukee broke the tie with an 8-0 run to close out the first quarter, 19-11.
  • UIC got back on the board with a pair of free throws in the second, and Burks followed with another triple, 23-16.
  • The Panthers continued to push the longball, going off on an 12-2 run that saw another trio of threes and pushed their lead back into double digits, 35-18.
  • The Flames picked up seven unanswered points in a one-minute span to pull within striking distance, 37-27. The Panthers broke the streak with a three, but Burks continued hitting from downtown, sinking threes in UIC's next two possessions, 42-33.
Second Half Highlights
  • Tiana Jackson and Jada Nneji gave the Flames the first four points in the second half, 43-37. Jackson added another basket after a Milwaukee layup, 45-39.
  • The Panthers picked up eight of the next nine, 53-40, but Amira Coles and Lampley cashed in back-to-back buckets to bring the lead back down to nine, 53-44. Milwaukee would get those four points back by the end of the third period, 57-44.
  • Burks fed the ball up to Nneji under the basket, and Lampley was able to drive in a layup to start the fourth quarter, 57-48. The Panthers were able to convert a three-point play, but Lampley struck again on the next possession, 60-50.
  • The Panthers put the game out of reach with a 6-0 streak over the next minute and-a-half, 66-50.
  • The final buzzer sounded with a 71-55 win for the home team.
Facts & Figures
  • UIC finished more efficient overall, but the Panthers were able to put up more shots, making 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the field compared to 45.8 percent (22-of-48) for the Flames.
  • Kimeira Burks's career day came from 7-of-14 shooting overall and 4-of-9 shooting from three. The freshman also handed out a pair of assists and made one steal.
  • Tylah Lampley also finished in double figures for the Flames, putting up 12 points to go with eight rebounds. Lampley also passed out a team-high four assists to match her season high.
  • Tiana Jackson collected eight points and six rebounds. She also made three steals for the defense.
  • Jada Nneji tallied six points, followed by Jealissa Presswood with four.
  • Milwaukee outrebounded the Flames, 41-27.
  • The Flames made 35.7 percent (5-of-14) of their shots beyond the arc, while the Panthers made 32 percent (8-of-25) of their shots from downtown.
  • Milwaukee had the advantage in the paint, 28-20. The Panthers cashed in 22 points off 19 UIC turnovers, while the Flames took 12 from Milwaukee's 16 miscues.
