CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (2-13, 1-3 HL) took home its first Horizon League win of the season in thrilling overtime fashion, taking down Oakland (6-8, 1-2 HL) by a final tally of 70-64 on Saturday inside Credit Union 1 Arena. The Flames erased a seven-point fourth quarter by outscoring the Golden Grizzlies 14-8 in overtime to secure their first win of the season at home.

Four Flames finished in double figures for the first time this season, as
Tylah Lampley, Jada Neji,
Tiana Jackson and
Kimeira Burks all finished with more than 10 points. UIC shot above 40 percent as a squad in its third-consecutive showing, shooting 43.5 percent overall for its highest shooting percentage in Horizon League play so far.

First Half Highlights
- Oakland won the tip off, but UIC scored first with a layup by Jade Nneji to take the lead, 2-0. Back-to-back jumpers would increase UIC's lead by four, 6-0.
- A 6-0 run by the Grizzlies tied the game. However, Nneji's shot from the charity stripe would put UIC back on top, 9-8.
- Two turnovers increased the Flames' lead by four, but a jumper by Oakland ended their scoring drought and cut the lead back to three, 13-10.
- The first period ended with a pair of free throws by Amira Coles and Tiana Jackson, 19-12.
- Jackson's shot for two got UIC started at the top of the second, 21-12. With eight seconds left on the shot clock, Jackson continued to produce and drove in for a layup. Oakland quickly responded with a jumper, 25-17.
- Kimeira Burks' shot from downtown would give UIC their largest lead in the first half, 34-23.
Second Half Highlights
- After back-to-back layups by Oakland, Nneji's layup and free throw got the Flames on the board in the second half, 37-29.
- Abreanna Lake's three would give the Flames a seven-point lead, but the Grizzlies' layup and jumper would cut UIC's lead to back to three, 40-37.
- Jackson's shot from the charity stripe would give way to a 5-0 run with back-to-back layups by Tylah Lampley, 49-39. The third period ended with two unanswered layups from Oakland, 49-43.
- The Grizzlies scored first in fourth quarter, but the Flames answered right back with jumper by Nneji, 51-45.
- A 5-0 run would give Oakland the lead, 54-53, but a free throw form Jackson would end up tying the game. The battle continued as Oakland scored two free throws of their own to gain a two-point advantage, 56-54. With 51 seconds remaining, Nneji's layup would tie the game again and force overtime, 56-56.

Overtime Highlights
- Burks's dagger gained the lead for the Flames at the top of the fifth period, but two free throws from Oakland would cut the lead to one, 59-58.
- Lake's jumper would create an 8-0 run for the Flames with a minute left in the game, 67-58. Two late threes from Oakland weren't enough to stay in the game, as Nneji scored a layup and free throw within the remaining seconds to secure the win for UIC, 70-64.

- Tylah Lampley secured her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
- Jada Nneji led the squad with 19 points and was three rebounds shy of a double-double with seven.
- Tiana Jackson finished with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and a personal-best six steals.
- Kimeira Burks recorded her third double-digit showing of the season with 10 points.
- Abreanna Lake tallied a season-high nine points while also handing out three assists.
- The Flames outshot the Golden Grizzlies 43.5 percent to 39.1 percent. They were also stronger on the boards, pulling down 42 rebounds compared to Oakland's 39.
- The Golden Grizzlies finished with fewer turnovers, 22-20, but the Flames profited more off Oakland's miscues, 23-20.
- Oakland had a slight advantage in the paint, 36-34, as well as on the second chance, 15-7. The Golden Grizzlies put in 15 off the fast break, compared to eight for the Flames. Oakland's bench outscored UIC's, 19-16.
