RayQuawndis Mitchell was named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday (Nov. 30).

Mitchell, who earned the award following his first two games as a member of the Flames, becomes the first men's basketball player to earn the weekly honor since
Tarkus Ferguson was tabbed as the Player of the Week on Feb. 4, 2019.

The Atlanta, Georgia native made an immediate impact on the Flames, hitting the go-ahead, and eventual game-winning, 3-pointer in UIC's 64-61 win over Northern Illinois on Nov. 25. The junior tied for the team high with 12 points, including his triple with 16.6 seconds left to put the Flames ahead, 61-60.

Mitchell followed up the performance with a game-high 23 points in UIC's 74-72 win over Central Michigan on Saturday. Mitchell finished the game 6-for-10 from the field, 4-for-5 from long distance and 7-for-9 from the free throw line while adding four rebounds.

For the week, Mitchell averaged a team-high 17.5 points per game while shooting 43.5% from the field and a blistering 53.3% (8-15) from 3-point range.

The Flames return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at home against Valparaiso. Tipoff on ESPN3 is set for 6 p.m.
