1999 was a breakthrough year for the UIC men's soccer program. The team won its first-ever
regular season conference title with a sparkling 6-1 record in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (as the Horizon League was then known). They completed the double with a dominating run through the tournament field, beating Cleveland State 6-0, Green Bay 3-1, and
Detroit 2-0 for the trophy.
Eric Lukin, the conference Player of the Year and one of three Flames on the All-MCC First Team, scored on a free kick to give UIC a 1-0 lead. Greg Chrisman added the second goal. It was UIC's first appearance in the conference championship match.
John Collins, Jay DeMerit, and goalkeeper Chris Jamal were among the Flames'
eight All-MCC players who made the All-Tournament Team. Ranko Tutulugdzjia also made the All-Tournament squad.
Lukin was named the tournament MVP.
