INDIANAPOLIS – UIC women's basketball freshman
Jaida McCloud has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the period of Nov. 30 – Dec. 6, the conference office announced on Monday. McCloud picks up the first weekly award of her career and the first for the Flames since Feb. 15, 2016.
McCloud had her best outing yet on Saturday at Western Michigan, pouring in a game-high 26 points alongside 10 rebounds and a pair of steals for her first double-double as a Flame. The freshman shot 11-of-22 overall and was 1-of-3 from beyond the arc against the Broncos.
The Peoria, Ill. native has had an incredible start to her collegiate career, posting double-digit showings in all three games so far while leading the team in scoring (19.7 ppg), rebounds (8.3 per game) and field goal percentage (.490). Around the Horizon League, McCloud's 19.7 points per game leads the pack, while her 8.3 rebounds per game stands at fifth among League competitors.
McCloud and the rest of the Flames look ahead to the start of Horizon League play this weekend (Dec. 12 & 13), as they prepare for a road series at Oakland.
