Flames Challenged by Cleveland State

UIC wraps homestand with 83-43 loss to Vikings

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (3-19, 2-9 HL) were dealt an 83-43 loss on Saturday afternoon by Horizon League foe Cleveland State (16-6, 6-5 HL). The Viking defense contained the Flames to 23.4 percent from the field, while their offense shot 43.7 percent overall.

First Half Highlights
  • The Flames won the tip off, but the Vikings got on the board first with four unanswered shots, 9-0. Jada Nneji ended Cleveland State's streak with jumper, but the Vikings responded right back with 3-pointer, 12-2.
  • The battle continued with UIC gaining two freebies, 17-6. However, Cleveland State continued to push and ended the first quarter with the lead, 27-7.
  • Nneji got things started for the Flames in the second period with layup that was followed up with a jumper from Abreanna Lake, 29-11. Nneji continued to produce with a jump shot to end UIC's scoring drought and the Vikings' 6-0 run, 41-15.
  • The first half ended with a pair of free throws from Cleveland State, 47-17.
Second Half Highlights
  • The Vikings' 3-pointer was not left unanswered as Kimeira Burks drove in for a layup to get UIC on the board in the third period, 51-19.
  • Tiana Jackson ended Cleveland State's 9-0 run with a jumper and shot from the charity stripe, 60-22. Nneji gained another two for UIC after back-to-back layups from the Vikings, 64-24.
  • A pair of layups would be UIC's first field goals to start the fourth quarter, 76-29. Lake gained another two for the Flames, but the Vikings answered with a layup, 78-31.
  • The Flames began chipping away at Cleveland State's lead with a 10-0 run that started with a jumper from Tylah Lampley. However, UIC's late spurt would not be enough as Cleveland State walked away with the win, 83-43.
