ALLENDALE, Mich. – The UIC men's and women's track and field programs put forth its second consecutive positive performance in as many weeks, wrapping up competition at the annual GVSU Big Meet.

"I thought this weekend was another positive step forward as we get closer to conference," said head coach
Ashley Lucas. "We had multiple season bests and several lifetime bests. The weekend was highlighted with Kayla getting her first school record. Now we just taper down for conference and stay healthy."

Kayla Isom fed off her record-setting Friday with another strong showing Saturday. Isom finished eighth in the women's 400, posting a time of 58.03, before being the anchor leg on UIC's third-place 4x400 relay team. Bailey Moran, Titi Hassan, Brenda Nguyen started the race before handing the baton off to Isom, who crossed the line in 3:59.95.

On the men's side, the 4x400 relay team of
Trevor Tousana,
Jahari Stubbs,
Sean Barber and
Josh English won the event title in a time of 3:22.86.

The relay victory capped a strong meet for Stubbs, as the freshman also finished sixth in the men's 60-meter hurdles. After posting the sixth-fastest time in qualifying (8.52), the freshman shaved off .04 seconds of his time to finish eighth in the finals with a time of 8.48. Stubbs also posted a 24
th-place finish in the men's 400 (50.74).

Stubbs was the second Flame to cross the line in the men's 400, as English took 12
th overall, crossing the line in 50.21.

The women had a pair of high performances in the mile, with Natalie Jaramillo (5:11.77) and Teresa Mejia (5:15.26) finishing in 15
th and 24
th, respectively.

In the field, the Flames had a pair of top-20 performances. Ciana Clinton finished 17
th in the women's shot put (12.07m) while
Keylen Williams claimed 19
th in the men's high jump (1.81m).

UIC has one more weekend of competition to prepare for the conference meet. The Flames will be splitting squads next weekend to travel to the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational and the University of Chicago Margaret Bradley Invitational.
