Flames Defeated by Green Bay

UIC drops 75-49 decision

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (3-24, 2-14 HL) was handed a 75-49 loss on Friday afternoon by Horizon League foe Green Bay (15-12, 10-5 HL). The Flames played in front of a crowd of over 2,200 people from 21 different groups as part of its School Day Outing.

First Half Highlights
  • Kimeira Burks put away a pair of layups and Jealissa Presswood sank a free throw to give UIC a5-3 lead. Jada Nneji would later convert a three-point play to extend the Flames' advantage, 8-4.
  • Green Bay put away a jumper before Nneji and Shelby Case would score, 12-6.
  • The Phoenix took the next five with a jumper and a three, but Nneji and Tiana Jackson responded, giving the Flames a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Green Bay took over the lead after a 9-2 run to open the second quarter, 20-18. Presswood took a feed from Jackson to tie the game, but the Phoenix picked up eight of the next nine, 28-21.
  • Shelby Case sank one from downtown and Ahsha Spencer laid one up to put the Flames within four, 30-26.
  • The Visitors kept UIC without a point through the final two minutes and thirty seconds of the quarter, taking a 36-26 lead at the half.
Second Half Highlights
  • Green Bay continued its trend, keeping the Flames without a score through the first two minutes of the second half while growing its lead, 42-26.
  • Kiarra Thompson drilled a three, but the Phoenix converted for three, 47-31.
  • Neither team scored in the next three minutes, until Jackson was able to lay one up, 47-33.
  • The two teams traded 6-0 streaks to finish out the third quarter, 53-39.
  • Nneji made a pair of layups at the start of the fourth quarter to put the Flames back within 10, 53-43, but the Phoenix took the next six, 59-43.
  • Case drove in a layup before Green Bay would take another five, 64-45. The Phoenix kept UIC without a field goal for the rest of the game, limiting it to four free throws to take it by a final tally of 75-49.
Facts & Figures
  • Jada Nneji finished with her 13 double-digit performance of the season with a team-high 13 points. She also added six rebounds
  • Shelby Case took home a career-high nine points. Kimeira Burks also finished with nine points.
  • Jealissa Presswood matched her own career high with eight rebounds.
  • Tiana Jackson tied her career high assists with five and was one rebound shy of her personal best with seven.
  • Green Bay outshot the Flames overall 30.4 percent (17-of-56) to 42.2 percent (27-of-64). The teams were nearly even from beyond the arc, but the Phoenix held a slight advantage, 22.2 percent (6-of-27) to 21.4 percent (3-of-14).
  • The Phoenix had the advantage at the charity stripe, 83.3 percent (15-of-18) to 52.2 percent (12-of-23).
  • Green Bay was stronger in the paint, 36-24. They were also better on the second chance, 12-8, as well as off the fast break, 30-19.
  • The Phoenix got 13 points off 13 UIC turnovers. The Flames picked up eight from Green Bay's 15 miscues.
