CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (4-2) battled to a hard-fought win over Louisiana (8-1), handing the Ragin' Cajuns their first loss of the season with a 4-2 victory. The Flames fought back after losing No. 1 doubles to take the next two matches and went back-and-forth in singles, eventually clinching the win in the No. 6 match.
Doubles Highlights
The No. 1 match went to Louisiana, as Floriane Picaut and Dana Radovanovic defeated
Karyna Bihel and
Izzy Marshall, 6-4.
Georgia Gulin and
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo fought to a 7-6 (6) win over Lucie Raquin and Marina Garcia at No. 3, and
Lucie Prochazkova and
Nell Arendt won another close match at No. 2, 7-6 (5) over Mariona Perez and Clara Mantaux.
Singles Highlights
The Ragin' Cajuns evened the score at No. 4, with Clara Mantaux defeating
Georgia Gulin, 6-0, 6-0, but UIC jumped right back in the lead with
Izzy Marshall's 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Lucie Raquin.
Karyna Bihel made her premiere at No. 1 and shined, taking down Floraine Picaut in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Louisiana got the win at No. 5 to pull within one, as Dana Radovanovic took down
Nell Arendt, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, but
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo clinched the win for the Flames in her singles debut, besting Marina Garcia 6-2, 7-6 (5). The No. 2 match between
Lejla Colic and Mariona Perez went unfinished.
