TOLEDO, Ohio – The UIC women's tennis team (5-2) picked up a 5-2 road win over Toledo (4-5) on Saturday morning. The Flames grabbed the doubles point and broke a 2-2 tie with three-straight singles wins at No. 2, No. 6 and No. 5 to defeat the Rockets.
Doubles Highlights
Georgia Gulin and
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo started the match with a 6-0 shutout of Zina Mehikic and Sloane Teske at No. 3, but Toledo retaliated with a 6-3 win at No. 1, as Dee Dee Leenabanchong and Eileen Carney defeated
Lejla Colic and
Izzy Marshall.
Karyna Bihel and
Lucie Prochazkova held off Patricia Panta and Laura Morera at No. 2 to give UIC the doubles point, 6-4.
Singles Highlights
UIC jumped out to a 2-0 lead after
Lucie Prochazkova defeated Sloane Teske at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0, but Toledo answered by taking the next two to bring the match to a tie. Dee Dee Leenabanchong bested
Karyna Bihel at No. 1, 6-1, 6-3 and Patricia Panta defeated
Izzy Marshall at No. 4, 6-1, 7-5.
Lejla Colic took down Eileen Carney in straight sets at No. 2, 6-4, 6-1 and
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Zina Mehikic to clinch the win for the Flames.
Georgia Gulin outlasted Laura Morera at No. 5, 7-6 (5), 6-1 to finish off the match.
