INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Seniors Tarkus Ferguson and Marcus Ottey were recognized by the Horizon League Monday (March 2), as the conference office announced its postseason awards. Ferguson was named to the All-League Second Team while Ottey was picked to the All-Defensive Team.

League awards are voted on by head coaches, sports information directors and select media representative from each school. All-Defensive Team and Defensive Player of the Year honors are voted on by head coaches only.

Ferguson has done a little bit of everything for the Flames this year, leading the team in points, rebounds and assists, while tying the team-high in blocks and ranking second in assists. The native of Belleville, Illinois became just the fourth Division I player since 1992-93 to have more than 1,500 career points, 700 career rebounds and 600 career assists.

Ferguson ranks second in the league in assists per game, fourth in blocks per game, 13th in points per game and 13th in steals per game. The guard has recorded two double-doubles this year and has scored 10 or more points in 24-of-28 games played. He currently ranks eight all-time on UIC's career scoring list, third in program history in assists, fifth in career steals and eighth in career blocks.

Ottey rebounded from missing the first 10 games of the season due to injury to rank second on the team in scoring (11.6). The native of Ajax, Ontario ranks first on the team among qualified shooters in free throw percentage (.789), while his .436 3-point percentage is second-best among qualified Flames. He has scored in double figures 13 times this season, including 10 instances in Horizon League play.

The guard scored a season-high 22 points in a road win against Youngstown State, while matching his season-high in field goals with seven. Ottey's 1,531 career points are 11th-most in program history while his 311 free throws are tied for seventh-most in school history.

UIC enters the 2020 Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship as the No. 4 seed and will play host to ninth-seeded IUPUI on Tuesday, March 2. Tipoff inside Credit Union 1 Arena is set for 7 p.m.
