CHICAGO – UIC head men's basketball coach Luke Yaklich has announced Wednesday (May 27) the addition of Dan Ryan and Khyle Marshall to complete the men's basketball staff. Ryan will join the program as the team's director of player personnel while Marshall will assume the role of director of scouting.

Dan Ryan Welcome

This will be the second time Ryan and Yaklich have worked together, as Ryan served as a student assistant for the Illinois State men's basketball team for three years while Yaklich was on staff.
Ryan joins the Flames after spending the 2019-20 season at Boston University as the men's basketball video coordinator.

"I am so appreciative of the opportunity to join Coach Yaklich's staff at UIC," said Ryan. "He has been a mentor of mine for years and I am so excited to work for him once again. I could not be more ready to join Coach Yak, the rest of our talented staff and our players in the pursuit of sustained excellence on and off the basketball court!"

"We are so excited to have Dan be a part of our basketball program," said Yaklich. "Dan is an incredibly hard worker that I was fortunate to work alongside for three years at Illinois State. Dan has great organization and communication skills and combined with his positive attitude will assuredly be a huge part of our student-athlete development on a daily basis."

Prior to his stint with the Terriers, Ryan spent two seasons on the Belmont staff where he served as the director of basketball operations for a year after being elevated from his graduate assistant position. During his time with the Bruins, the team claimed the 2018-19 Ohio Valley Conference title and a first-round victory in the NCAA Tournament over Temple.

A Chicago native who grew up in Lincoln Park and Libertyville, Ryan graduated from Illinois State in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in university studies before earning a master's degree in sports administration at Belmont.

Khyle Marshall

Marshall, who spent last season as a graduate assistant at Dayton, will be reunited with new UIC assistant coach Will Veasley, as the two were teammates on Butler's 2011 NCAA Final Four team.

"I am extremely thankful and excited to be joining Coach Yaklich and the Flames Family," said Marshall. "My collegiate career started at Butler University when they were in the Horizon League, and we were fortunate to experience many successful seasons. Coach Yaklich has shown tremendous vision in this UIC program. I am excited to embark on this journey with our players and staff!"

"We are excited about welcoming Khyle to our basketball program," stated Yaklich. "Khyle played a key role in the success of the basketball program this past season at the University of Dayton and is passionate about the game of basketball and has a unique ability to connect with student-athletes. He will be playing a key role in our game and practice preparation. Khyle has been a part of successful experiences as a player at Butler and I am looking forward to the positive impact that he can have upon our student-athletes each and every day."

Marshall began his coaching career in 2017-18 as an assistant coach at Florida Southwestern State College. That season, the Bucs went 30-3 and earned the school's first-ever at-large bid to the NJCAA National Tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals. Following the season, Marshall moved to Florida Gulf Coast University to serve as the coordinator of video operation in 2018-19.

A native of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Marshall graduated from Butler with a bachelor's degree in human movement and health science in 2014 before embarking on a four-year professional career with stops in Japan, the Dominican Republic, Spain and Portugal
