Senior Day Match Pits Flames Against Titans

Six Seniors Will Be Honored Prior to Kickoff

10/16/2021 12:59:00 PM

Sunday afternoon is Senior Day for six Flames who will be honored for their contributions to the women's soccer program.

UIC will host Detroit Mercy starting at 1:00 p.m., with the senior ceremony beforehand.  It is the second to last home game for the team, which has gone 1-0-1 in its last two appearances on Flames Field.  "We're going to celebrate our seniors, and we look forward to hopefully getting a result," said David Nikolic, adding, "it's time we got some of these bounces to go our way."

The bounces did not go UIC's way in a 1-0 loss at Cleveland State Thursday.  A Flames shot, with the keeper out of position, hit the crossbar and then bounced down for a rebound opportunity, which was saved by a Viking defender.  The only goal of the game came after a corner kick was headed into a mass of humanity, only to bounce right to the foot of an open player who made the shot.

The decision made it two losses in a row for the Flames, after they had gotten at least a point in three straight.  With just two more matches to follow, the team will look to close out the season on a series of high notes.

The Titans enter with a 2-12-1 record, and a 1-6-1 mark in conference play.  They did, however, give first place Milwaukee all they could handle in a 3-2 loss on Thursday.  A trio of Titans have three goals apiece.  Erica Leinweber has three goals and three assists for a team-high nine points.  Jazmine Scott and Marisa Silver have evenly split time in goal, with Silver putting up superior goals-against average and save percentage stats.

Admission to Flames Field is free, and fans are encouraged to arrive early for the ceremony honoring Megan Bowman, Janai Cedeno, Lena Kurz, Maeve Riordan, Tina Thorsen, and Alexis Weeren.  There will not be a video stream.
