Flames Drop Game To Indiana State, 76-50

UIC Women's Basketball Falls to the Sycamores on Tuesday Night

TERRE HAUTE, IND. - The UIC Flames (2-6, 1-3 Horizon) fell to the Indiana State Sycamores (4-6, 0-0 MVC), 76-50, on Tuesday night. The Flames were unable to keep up with the pace that Indiana State set early on, as the Sycamores scored 21 points on the day off of fast breaks. Ky Dempsey-Toney led the Flames with a career-high 14 points on the day, shooting a perfect 6-6 from the field.

In the first half of play, UIC struggled with the pressure defense that Indiana State put on the floor. The Sycamores' physicality was overpowering on the defensive and offensive end, as ISU continued to have their way in the paint against the Flames. The Flames continued to battle down low against the Sycamores but found themselves down by 20 points at the end of halftime.

Kristian Young and Dempsey-Toney gave the Flames some much-needed energy off the bench in the first half. In her first start of the season, Isabel Gonzalez scored four points, grabbed three boards, and dished one assist in the first half of play for the Flames. Indiana State was scoring at will near the end of the second quarter, as the Sycamores continued to force the ball down the court in transition.

The Flames battled back in the final quarter, scoring 21 points.  Dempsey-Toney's eight points and the Flames forcing ten turnovers swung the momentum back in UIC favor near the end. It was not enough to come back from the deficit, however, as the Flames fell, 76-50.

UIC will return to Credit Union 1 Arena on Saturday, Dec. 18, to host Saint Louis. Tip-off will be at 1 p.m.
