CHICAGO – The UIC track & field program opened up the 2021-22 indoor on Friday with a pair of meets. A handful of Flames remained in town to compete at the Windy City Invite, hosted by Chicago State, while a pair of runners went up to Grand Valley State for the GVSU Holiday Open.

In Chicago, the UIC women swept the 200m as Olivia Dumas (25.99), Bailey Moran (26.13) and Natalie Kowalzcuk took the top three spots in the event. In the men's race,
Sacrad Michelin claimed 3
rd with a time of 22.44 while
Trevor Tousana finished fourth overall (22.85).

Moran posted her second podium finish of the day in the women's 400m, crossing the line in 58.66 to win the title while Brooke Klatkiewicz finished second with a time of 1:02.97. The UIC men nearly swept the event, posting first, third and fourth-place finishes.
Jesse Casas finished atop the podium with a time of 50.06 while Tousana took third (50.74) and
Juan Maniog claimed fourth (50.89).

The men finished 1-2 in the 60m, with
Max Rivera (7.04) and Michelin (7.09) claiming the top two spots in the event. Dumas recorded her second top-two finish of the day with a second-place showing in the women's 60m (8.00) while Kaitlnn Rogers finished fifth overall (8.14).

Over at Grand Valley State,
Carlos Cabrera finished in 10
th place in his heat of the 5000m with a time of 14:38.06. The mark was a new personal best for Cabrera as he closes in on the school record in the event. Teresa Mejia also competed in the 5000m, finishing 26
th overall in her heat with a time of 18:16.23.
