PEORIA, Ill. – The UIC women's tennis team (2-2) improved to .500 on the young season on Friday with a 6-1 trouncing of Bradley (0-2). The Flames took home a pair of 6-4 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to for the 1-0 advantage before taking the first three singles matches outright to clinch the win.
Doubles Highlights
Nell Arendt and
Agnes Gustafsson defeated Bradley's Maria Bezmenova and Victoria Sanchez-Bronzetti in the No. 2 match, 6-4.
Ana Jover and
Lucie Prochazkova teamed up in the No. 1 match to bring down the Braves' Natalia Barbery and Sandra Maletin by the same score, 6-4, to hand the doubles point to UIC. The No. 3 match between UIC's
Tamara Malazonia and
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo went unfinished.
Singles Highlights
Ana Jover put the Flames up 2-0 with a straight-set win at No. 4, besting Bradley's Maria Bezmenova, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 2,
Agnes Gustafsson held on for a 7-6 (4) win in set one before shutting out the Braves' Bozana Lojpur in set two, 6-0, to take the win and push UIC's lead to three.
Lucie Prochazkova clinched the win for the Flames, taking down Victoria Sanchez-Bronzetti at No. 3, 6-1, 7-5.
The No. 1 match went to the Braves, as Sandra Maletin bested
Tamara Malazonia, 4-6, 6-4, 10-2.
Tuva Wallin added a win for UIC at No. 5, taking down Natalia Barbery in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, while
Georgia Gulin continued her undefeated start to the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Nikki Perlwitz.
