CHICAGO -- The UIC Flames stood toe-to-toe with the Milwaukee Panthers through the game's first 10 minutes Friday, but the visitors pulled away in the final three quarters to post a 58-35 victory in the penultimate game of the regular season.
The Flames (3-14, 1-12 Horizon League) trailed by only four points at the end of the first quarter, but the Panthers (17-6, 14-5 Horizon League) increased the lead to 10 at the break. UIC, which shot only 25% with 10 field goals Friday, was limited to only 18 points in the second half as the Panthers set the final margin.
The newcomers led the way once again for the Flames as freshman
Lindsey Rogers led the squad with 10 points to go along with four rebounds.
Kristian Young added nine points and a team-high seven boards. Young also dished out a game-high six assists.
First Half Highlights
- A Lindsey Rogers three and a Keona Schenck layup put the Flames up early, 5-2, but Milwaukee soon put in a three of its own to tie the game at five. A jumper from Tiana Jackson put the Flames back in the lead, 8-7, before a 5-0 run for Milwaukee flipped the advantage again, 12-8.
- A jumper late in the first quarter left the Panthers with a 14-10 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes.
- Milwaukee kept UIC without a bucket through the first half of the second quarter, taking the first eight points for themselves, 22-10. Young snapped the scoreless streak for UIC at 4:34 with a jumper, 22-12.
- Both offenses went cold in the final four minutes of the quarter, as a layup from Shelby Case and another Rogers three was all that would fall for the Flames through the remainder of the half, leaving Milwaukee with a 27-17 lead at halftime.
Second Half Highlights
- UIC's offense struggled to find the basket in the third quarter, going without a point through the first 6:18 of the second half, until a jumper from Young broke the spell, 36-19. Rogers followed with her third trey of the day one minute later, 38-23.
- A trio of freebies from Young would be all that UIC would get in the final two minutes of the frame, 44-26.
- A pair of Milwaukee threes sandwiched two successful trips to the free throw line for Jealissa Presswood in the first four minutes of the fourth, 50-30. Rogers and Presswood added two more freebies for UIC, 52-32, until the Flames were able to score their first field goal of the quarter at the 2:51 mark off a layup from Jada Nneji, 56-34.
- Milwaukee put in the final bucket of the game with just under two minutes remaining, giving them a 58-35 win when the final buzzer sounded.

- The Flames shot 25 percent (3-for-12) from three, while the Panthers shot 36.4 percent (4-for-11). Both teams were an even 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.
- Milwaukee took five points from UIC's 23 turnovers, while the Flames put in seven points off the Panthers' 22 miscues.
- The visitors were stronger in the paint, 28-14, as well as on the second chance, 4-2. Milwaukee's bench outscored UIC's, 19-10.
