Resilient Flames Knock Out North Dakota, 4-3

Jover's three-set win at No. 3 singles clinches victory

CHICAGO -- UIC was limited to five available players during Friday's home opener, but the results Flames (4-2) found a way to come from behind to knock off the visiting North Dakota Hawks, 4-3, at XS Tennis Village for their fourth consecutive victory on the young season.

UND claimed the doubles point with victories in both matches that were contested. The Hawks were spotted another point because UIC did not have anyone available to play in the sixth singles spot. The Flames won at No. 1 and No. 5 singles to even the ledger before UND won at No. 4 to take a 3-2 lead. Lucie Prochazkova and Ana Jover were battling at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, and the pair each came out victorious to claim the match for the home team.

Doubles Highlights
The Hawks came out as the more spirited squad and it showed in the results. Paired at No. 2, Prochazkova and Nell Arendt were defeated 6-3 before the day's top pairing of Tamara Malazonia and Jover fell short, 6-1.

Singles Highlights
Malazonia made quick work of her opponent at No. 1 singles, Kaede Amano, winning 6-3, 6-1. Arendt, playing in the fifth singles spot for the first time this season cruised in the first, winning 6-3. The second was a closer battle with Arendt prevailing, 7-5. The win evened the overall score at 2-2.

Jover (No. 3) and Georgia Gulin (No. 4) both dropped their opening set Friday, but each rallied to force a third, each winning by a 6-3 score. Gulin fell in the decider, 6-2.

Meanwhile Prochazkova was grinding through a tight tussle at No. 2 singles. She won her first set, 7-5, and then took the second by the same score to make it 3-3. The final outcome hinged on Jover's match against UND's Sapir Sela. Jover led at one point, 4-3, before Sela took back-to-back games to go ahead 5-4. The two traded magnificent rallies before Jover ultimately prevailed 7-6 (1).

Prochazkova's win was her fifth of the season in singles play. Her and Gulin lead the team with 5-1 records. Jover has won four of her six opportunities. Arendt is unbeaten in singles matches at 2-0.
