Women’s Tennis Comes up Short Against Toledo, 4-3

UIC’s win streak halted at four

CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (4-3) saw its four-match win streak come to halt on Friday after coming up short against Toledo (2-2) by a final tally of 4-3. The Flames won the doubles point for an early lead, but were unable to hold off the Rockets in singles, as they took the first four matches consecutively to take the match, 4-3.

Doubles Highlights
Lucie Prochazkova and Agnes Gustafsson paired up for the No. 1 match to take down Toledo's Julia Kuszynski and Sloane Teske, 6-4. Tamara Malazonia and Nell Arendt quickly followed with another win for UIC at No. 2, 6-3, over Christina Fuller and Eileen Carney, handing the doubles point to the Flames. The No. 3 match featuring UIC's Ana Jover and Tuva Wallin as well as Toledo's Cassie Alcala and Laura Morera went unfinished with the Flames up 5-3.

Singles Highlights
Toledo evened the score with a win at No. 2, as Agnes Gustafsson fell to Sloane Teske, 6-4, 6-3. The Rockets took over the lead at No. 1, with Cassie Alcala defeating Tamara Malazonia, 6-4, 6-0. The No. 5 match finished next with Toledo's Patricia Panta besting Tuva Wallin, 6-4, 6-2. The Rockets clinched the win at No. 6, as Shalini Tallamraju got the best of Georgia Gulin in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Lucie Prochazkova added a point for UIC at No. 3, outlasting Eileen Carney in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, while Ana Jover also added a win for the Flames with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Julia Kuszynski at No. 4. Nell Arendt faced Ava McQuillen in extra match and came out victorious, 6-2, 6-4.
