CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (0-1) will continue its season-opening road stint this weekend as it travels to Ohio for a pair of matches. The Flames will take on Xavier on Friday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. CT inside Camargo Racquet Club before finishing out the weekend in Miamisburg, Ohio with a match against Dayton at the South Regency Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. CT.
Last weekend (Jan. 30) the Flames kicked off their season at Marquette, battling to a 4-3 loss. Lucie Procahzkova,
Ana Jover and
Georgia Gulin all picked up singles wins for the Flames in the setback.
Friday's match will serve as the season opener for Xavier, who went 5-9 in the shortened 2020 campaign with an 0-2 mark in Big East action. The Flames and Musketeers are tied 5-5 all-time, after Xavier took the last meeting between the two teams on Feb. 15, 2015, 7-0.
Dayton kicked off its season on Sunday, Jan. 31 with a 6-1 loss to SIUE. Sophomore Erica Wojcikiewicz picked up the lone win for the Flyers at No. 3, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Dayton will be facing Eastern Michigan on Friday (Feb. 5) prior to its meeting with the Flames.
UIC is also even all-time with the Flyers, 2-2, with Saturday's contest serving as the first meeting between the two teams since 1994.
Following this weekend's matches, the Flames will remain on the road once more for a pair of matches against Bradley (Feb. 12) and Eastern Michigan (Feb. 13).
