CINCINNATI – The UIC women's tennis team (0-2) kicked off its weekend in Ohio on Friday evening, taking a 5-2 loss to Xavier (1-0) at the Camargo Racquet Club.
Georgia Gulin and
Nell Arendt picked up singles wins for the Flames at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Doubles Highlights
Georgia Gulin and
Tuva Wallin combined in the No. 3 match and took a 6-0 loss to Xavier's Kaitlin Ruether and Imani Graham. The Musketeers were victorious again in the No. 1 match to secure the doubles point, as Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas bested
Agnes Gustafsson and
Tamara Malazonia, 6-1. The No. 2 match featuring UIC's
Lucie Prochazkova and
Ana Jover as well as Xavier's Kat Lyman and Anna Roggenburk went unfinished.
Singles Highlights
Ana Jover was dealt a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Imani Graham at No. 4 to put Xavier up by two, and another Musketeer victory in the No. 1 match pushed that lead to three, as Ahmeir Kyle defeated
Tamara Malazonia, 6-4, 6-2. Imani Graham sealed the deal for Xavier in the No. 4 match, defeating
Ana Jover, 6-3, 6-0.
Georgia Gulin picked up a win for the Flames at No. 5, taking care of Xavier's Emily Thomas in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. In the No. 2 match,
Agnes Gustafsson rallied after a 6-3 loss in the first set to take set two, 7-5, but she came up short in the third, 10-6, giving the win to Xavier's Anna Roggenburk.
Nell Arendt picked up the final win of the night for UIC, outlasting Xavier's Kaitlin Ruether at No. 6, 7-6 (6), 2-6, 10-6.
