CLEVELAND – The UIC women's tennis team (9-4, 2-0 HL) took care of Cleveland State (1-7, 0-2 HL) once again on Saturday, besting the Vikings 5-2 to push its win streak to five and finish with a perfect 2-0 record after their first weekend of Horizon League play. The Flames once again rallied after dropping the doubles point, winning the last three singles matches consecutively to power past the Vikings and earn the win.
Doubles Highlights
Ana Jover and
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo shut out Selma Tounsi and Bethany Yauch in the No. 3 match, 6-0, but
Agnes Gustafsson and
Lucie Prochazkova followed with a 6-3 loss to Miruna Vasilescu and Klara Mrcela at No. 1, bringing the fight for the doubles point to a tie. The Vikings came out on top in the deciding match, as Blanche Lenoan and Kateryna Avram got the best of
Nell Arendt and
Tamara Malazonia in the No. 2 match, 6-3.
Singles Highlights
Ana Jover trounced on the Vikings' Selma Tounsi at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2, bringing the match to a 1-1 tie with her seventh-straight win. Miruna Vasilescu got the best of
Tamara Malazonia at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2, but the Flames immediately responded, as
Agnes Gustafsson took down Klara Mrcela, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 2 matchup to bring the match once more to a draw.
From there it was all UIC, as the Flames grabbed wins in the next three matches to polish off the Vikings.
Nell Arendt won at No. 6, defeating Bethan Yauch 6-3, 6-2, and
Georgia Gulin clinched the win for UIC at No. 5, outlasting Sian Payne 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Lucie Prochazkova ended the day with her eighth win of the season, taking down Blanche Lenoan at No. 3, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
