CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (5-4) got back into the win column on Monday with a 6-1 trouncing of city-rival Chicago State (0-3). The Flames took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches by an identical 6-2 score to grab the early advantage before taking five straight-set wins in singles to polish off the Cougars.
Doubles Highlights
Georgia Gulin and
Agnes Gustafsson paired up for the first time this season, taking down Chicago State's Susana Andres and Katarina Dukic at No. 3, 6-2. The tandem of
Tuva Wallin and
Ana Jover followed with an identical 6-2 win at No. 2, defeating Sofiya Sedovich and Kristina Pukhaeva and giving the Flames the 1-0 lead. The No. 1 match between UIC's
Nell Arendt and
Tamara Malazonia as well as Chicago State's Diana Borodina and Katarina Drazic went unfinished.
Singles Highlights
Agnes Gustafsson got things started at No. 2, taking care of Kristina Pukhaeva, 6-1, 6-2.
Georgia Gulin followed at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-1 rout of Katarina Dukic, putting UIC just win away from the clinch.
Ana Jover sealed the deal for UIC with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Katarina Drazic, while
Tamara Malazonia tacked on another win for the Flames at No. 1, defeating Chicago State's Diana Borodina in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
Nell Arendt was the final Flame to pick up a win, besting Susana Andres in the No. 6 match, 6-4, 6-0. The Cougars' lone win of the day came at No. 4, as Sofiya Sedovich got the best of
Tuva Wallin in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7.
