CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (6-4) cruised to a 6-1 win at home on Thursday over Cardinal Stritch (1-4). The Flames grabbed two out of three doubles matches for an early 1-0 lead and continued with five-straight wins in singles action to pick up their second 6-1 trouncing of the week.
Doubles Highlights
Cardinal Stritch got the first doubles match of the day, as the Wolves' Lisa Keller and Klara Smolikova defeated
Agnes Gustafsson and
Tamara Malazonia in the No. 1 match, 6-2.
Tuva Wallin and
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo evened things out at No. 3, taking down Nina Westkamp and Noor Goyvaerts, 6-1. The fight for the doubles point came down to the No. 2 match, where
Ana Jover and
Nell Arendt bested Assya Trimari and Chelsea Kelly, 6-4, to put the 1-0 lead firmly in UIC's grasp.
Singles Highlights
Ana Jover made quick work out of Nina Westkamp at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1, to put the Flames up by two.
Tamara Malazonia extended the lead to 3-0, defeating Klara Smolikova at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2.
Georgia Gulin clinched the win for the Flames at No. 5, taking down Kimmy Tait in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
Tuva Wallin was victorious at No. 4, outlasting Assya Trimari, 4-6, 6-2, 10-1, while
Nell Arendt also added another win for UIC with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Noor Goyvaerts at No. 6. The No. 1 match went to the Wolves, with Lisa Keller getting the best of
Agnes Gustafsson in the final match of the day, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
