CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (7-4) finished off its busy stretch of three matches in a four-day span with a 7-0 shutout win over city-foe Roosevelt (0-1) on Friday. The Flames earned a pair of 6-0 shutouts in doubles, while
Tuva Wallin,
Nell Arendt and
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo each blanked their opponents in singles action to help UIC complete the shutout.
Doubles Highlights
Agnes Gustafsson and Hermany de Figueiredo grabbed the first 6-0 win for the Flames at No. 2, defeating Roosevelt's Kyla Eaton and Ava Collins.
Tuva Wallin and
Tamara Malazonia followed with a 6-0 rout of their own at No. 1, toppling over the Lakers' Maria Riveras and Grace Hahn to soundly the doubles point to UIC. The No. 3 match featuring UIC's
Georgia Gulin and
Nell Arendt went to the Flames by forfeit.
Singles Highlights
The No. 6 match went to UIC by forfeit, giving the Flames a 2-0 advantage.
Nell Arendt finished first at No. 4 with the first blanking of the day, shutting out Ava Collins, 6-0, 6-0.
Tuva Wallin also blanked her opponent, Kyla Eaton, at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0, allowing the Flames to quickly clinch the win.
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo finished with UIC's third shutout of the day, taking care of Meryem Ahmed at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0.
Agnes Gustafsson completed a 6-1, 6-0 straight-set win over Grace Hahn at No. 2, while
Tamara Malazonia completed the shutout for the Flames with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Maria Riveras at No. 1.
