Felix LaFortune added another final round qualification to his record as the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships concluded Tuesday.
The meet was the most successful zone meet in UIC history, as both LaFortune and Cydney Liebenberg made the finals on both boards. "I can't tell you how proud I am of these two," said
Susan Bromberg. "They have waited a year for this and despite all of the unknowns that we have all been through they have been able to stay focused, positive, and driven to become better each and every day."
LaFortune scored 273.05 in the 1-meter preliminaries and advanced to the finals for the second time in as many events this year, and for the third time in his career. He scored 7.0 from two judges on his second dive and had a high score of 50.70 on his fifth dive.
LaFortune was the only diver in the field from outside the Power 5. Competing against divers from the Big Ten, SEC, and ACC, he set a personal Zone career high in the prelims, and improved his score to 281.05 in the finals. He earned higher scores on three of his six dives and touched 7.0 on two different attempts.
LaFortune and the rest of the Flames will return to competition March 20 against Milwaukee.
