MILWAUKEE – The UIC women's tennis team (14-5, 6-1 HL) got back to its winning ways on Saturday, taking a 5-2 win in its series opener against Horizon League foe Milwaukee (10-6, 3-4 HL). The Flames won the first two doubles matches by identical 6-3 scores and added four singles wins from the middle positions to earn its sixth conference win of the season.
Doubles Highlights
Lucie Prochazkova and
Ana Jover were back at it at No. 2, earning their third-straight win as a pair with a 6-3 victory over Milwaukee's Agata Jurczak and Lucy Harper.
Tamara Malazonia and
Agnes Gustafsson teamed up for the second-straight match at No. 1, taking a 6-3 win of their own over Greta Carbone and Mikki Milner to secure the doubles point for UIC. The No. 3 match between UIC's
Nell Arendt and
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo and Milwaukee's Mayya Perova and Anika Tylek went unfinished.
Singles Highlights
Jover snagged her second win of the day with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win over Harper at No. 4, putting the Flames ahead, 2-0.
Georgia Gulin got back in the win column with her 13th victory of the season, taking down Tylek at No. 5 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 to put UIC one win away from the clinch. Prochazkova finished next and clinched the win for UIC in the No. 3 match, defeating Milner, 6-3, 6-2 in what was her fifth-straight victory. Gustafsson picked up a bonus win for the Flames in the No. 2 match, defeating Perova, 6-3, 6-4. The Panthers' first win of the day came in the No. 1 match, as Carbone got the best of Malazonia, 6-4, 6-2. Milwaukee also got the edge in the No. 6 match, as Jurczak defeated Arendt in the tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-4, 14-12.
