Flames Wipe Out Oakland, 7-0

UIC earns fifth shutout victory of the season

CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (16-5, 8-1 HL) made quick work of Oakland (2-17, 2-9 HL) on Saturday afternoon, shutting out the Golden Grizzlies 7-0 in what was their fifth blanking of the season. The Flames earned the doubles point and all six singles victories, improving their conference record to 8-1 heading into tomorrow's regular season finale.

The win also put head coach Shannon Tully just one win away from the 300-career win mark.

Doubles Highlights
Lucie Prochazkova and Ana Jover came out the gate with a dominating shutout performance over Oakalnd's Joelle Tabernal and Emma Hultqvist at No. 2, 6-0. The number three match went to the Flames by forfeit, while the No. 1 match between UIC's Tamara Malazonia and Agnes Gustafsson and Oakland's Yasmin Glazbrook and Nirva Patel went unfinished.

Singles Highlights
The Flames took the No. 6 match by forfeit, giving them a 2-0 edge. Prochazkova carried her dominance into singles action, where she picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mia Melnizki in the No. 3 match for her seventh-straight win. Jover clinched the win for UIC in the No. 4 match, defeating Tabernal in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Gustafsson added a win at No. 2, taking down Patel, 6-2, 6-3, before Malazonia followed suit with a win of her own at No. 1, outlasting Glazbrook in the tiebreaker, 1-6, 6-0, 10-8. Georgia Gulin completed the shutout for the Flames at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hultqvist.
