Skobalj to Compete on Serbian U19 National Team at FIBA World Cup

Incoming signee Filip Skobalj will compete in the annual tournament, held July 3-11, in Latvia

CHICAGO – Incoming UIC signee Filip Skobalj will represent his native country of Serbia this summer as the 6-foot-7 forward will compete in the 2021 U19 FIBA World Cup, held in Latvia.
 
Skobalj and the Serbian National Team have been placed in Group B of the tournament, which takes place July 3-11, and will compete in pool play action against Puerto Rico, Iran and the hosts Lativa. Following pool play, all 16 teams in the field will be seeded into a single-elimination bracket based on their performance in the pool play round.
 
Serbia will open its pool play competition on Saturday, July 3rd against Iran, before closing out action against Puerto Rico (July 4) and Latvia (July 6).
 
Skobalj was a member of Serbia's 2019 U18 FIBA European Championship squad that finished in 10th place. The forward averaged 5.9 points and two rebounds per contest, with a tournament high 14 points against Germany in the knockout round.
