YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A runner-up finish by
Martin Skucas in the men's steeplechase highlighted a jam-packed second day of the 2021 Horizon League Track & Field Championship.

"Today was definitely the epitome of it being 2020-21 with some decisions made to change things due to the predicted weather tomorrow, but we just keep rolling with the punches," said head coach
Ashley Lucas. "Highlights of the day were Bailey (Moran), Trevor (Tousana), Sacrad (Michelin) and Jesse (Casas) making the finals of the 400 tomorrow, Jakob finishing his last conference 400m hurdles race on the podium in third and Martin running an awesome steeple for a runner-up finish. I'm proud of the team for how they are responding to the changes and looking forward to some great performances tomorrow."

Skucas claimed silver in the steeplechase, finishing the event in a personal-best time of 9:20.47 to secure eight points for the Flames. In the final meet for the native of Orland Park, Illinois, Skucas shaved just over two seconds off his personal best time for the new best mark.

Jakob Mogorovic added six points for the men's squad with a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles, posting a time of 54.56.

Jahari Stubbs rounded out the scoring for the Flames Saturday, securing three points in the 110m hurdles with a sixth-place showing (14.90). The time is a new season-best for the freshman.

The Flames excelled in qualifying action of the 400m, sending a total of four student-athletes to Sunday's finals. Bailey Moran won her heat and finished second overall in qualifying, posting a time of 58.21.

Three men moved along to the finals of the event, with
Trevor Tousana (3
rd – 49.82),
Jesse Casas (5
th – 49.96) and
Sacrad Michelin (7
th – 50.76) all securing spots among the top eight finishers.

Michelin added another finals appearance in the 200m, qualifying on Saturday with a time of 21.91 to claim sixth place overall.
