Flames Ignite Rivalry With DePaul

First-Ever Meeting is Sunday Afternoon

8/28/2021 11:00:00 AM

As far as road trips go, the trip to UIC's next opponent is a pittance.

After completing two round trips in excess of 2,200 miles to play Wake Forest and Minnesota, the Flames will make a short, four-mile drive up Halsted Street to face DePaul Sunday afternoon.

The first-ever meeting between the crosstown foes will come a full week after UIC's last outing, giving the Flames some much-needed time to recover, train, and internalize concepts that David Nikolic and his staff have been installing.  While the defense has been solid, allowing just one goal in 200 minutes against two Power 5 opponents, the offense is looking for a breakthrough.

Makena Shaw is UIC's leader in shots, with three.  She played 88 minutes against Minnesota and put one shot on goal.  Grace Setter, the team's leading goal scorer from 2020, saw a big jump in her minutes from game one to game two.  Kaitlyn Montague had a school record five assists last season and has been consistently in the mix initiating restarts and moving the offense forward.

DePaul enters with a record of 1-1, having defeated Horizon League side Oakland Thursday.  A fellow program with a first-year head coach, the Blue Demons lost to Iowa in their season opener in Lincoln Park.

Kickoff will be at 4:00 pm.  Local fans can purchase tickets from the DePaul ticketing website, while fans around the nation can watch on FloFC and follow the match via links in the blue box above.
