Flames Return to Action At Oakland

UIC Has Won Last Two in Series

9/22/2021 3:36:00 PM

Oakland recently ended a six-match losing streak.  On Thursday, a Flames team hungry for victory will look to snap their own losing streak at Oakland's expense.

UIC fell to Northern Kentucky on Sunday, despite an attack that generated several moments of opportunity early in the match and tallied the team's first goal of the season in the second half.  Megan Bowman, the recipient of a beautiful pass from Kaitlyn Montague, chipped the keeper to bring the Flames level at 1-all.

Northern Kentucky went on to score the game-winning goal off a corner kick just a few minutes later, prompting David Nikolic to observe that, while many things did go right, the team lost its focus in the immediate aftermath of scoring.

A focused effort for 90 minutes gave the Flames a win over Oakland in last season's opener.  Alexis Weeren had the only goal in a 1-0 win.  It was UIC's first win in Rochester, but they remain winless at Oakland Soccer Field, the site of Thursday's match.  The match in February was played inside the Grizz Dome.

The Golden Grizzlies are 1-0-1 in Horizon League play.  A draw with Youngstown State was followed by a 6-0 drubbing of Green Bay, moving them to 2-7-1 overall.  Alexa Sabbagh has a team-high four goals.  Sami Lopez is right behind her with three.  Twenty-one players have started at least one match.  Noemi Stadelmann has started every match in goal.  She has a goals-against average of 2.2 and a save percentage of .580.

The match will start at 5:00 p.m. Central, and is scheduled to be shown on ESPN+.
