CHICAGO – UIC's Kevin Johnson has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the League office announced Monday (Jan. 17). Johnson becomes the first Flame to garner weekly honors from the Horizon League after leading UIC to a 3-0 week.

Johnson played a vital role in the Flames' perfect week on the road, collecting wins at IUPUI, Milwaukee and Green Bay. The guard opened the week with a game-high 17 points and six assists in UIC's 67-65 win over IUPUI. Johnson went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line, with all eight free throws coming in the final 2:14 of the game (and four in the final 18 seconds to secure the victory).

Johnson then exploded for a season-high 28 points in the Flames' 81-77 win at Milwaukee. After being limited to two points in the first half, Johnson scored 26 in the second half on 9-of-10 shooting from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 effort from beyond the arc while adding five rebounds and three assists in the game.

The graduate student then capped his week with his third double-digit scoring game of the roadtrip with 16 points and six rebounds in UIC's 80-63 win at Green Bay, UIC's first win inside the Resch Center since 2004.

For the week, Johnson averaged 20.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists over the span of three games, shooting 59.4% from the field (19-32), 47.1% from 3-point range (8-17) and going 88.2% (15-17) from the free throw line.

UIC returns home on a three-game winning streak to take on Northern Kentucky on Thursday, Jan. 20.
