CHICAGO – For the first time in 2022 season, the UIC track and field was in competition Saturday, competing at the Illini Invitational hosted by the University of Illinois.

"Today was definitely a rust buster for many, considering it was the first meet back in 2022," said head coach
Ashley Lucas. "It was also just a mixed bag of results. We had quite a few personal bests which is always exciting to open the spring season at your best. And then, I think, quite a few had their eyes opened but took note of what they need to work on going forward."

Bailey Moran claimed a runner-up finish in the women's 600m, posting a time of 1:38.01 to claim second overall. Kate Wojcikiewicz was also in competition in the race, finishing seventh overall.

Mark Lemke also posted a runner-up finish in the 3000m with a time of 8:48.85, while
Luke Malone claimed fifth overall in the field (9:03.23).

The twin tandem of Dathan and
Drey Maton finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the men's 1 mile run.
Dathan Maton crossed in 4:21.66 while his brother Drey was right behind in 4:23.16. In the women's 1 mile competition, Teresa Mejia claimed fifth (10:29.17) while Rosie Campbell-Watt posted a sixth-place finish (10:48.09).

Olivia Dumas finished third in the women's 200m with a time of 25.65 while
Sacrad Michelin claimed third in the men's event (22.78).

The Flames will be back in action on Jan. 28 at the Bill Clinger Classic, hosted by Grand Valley State.
