Crucial Home Stretch Begins With Indiana State

Flames to Close Regular Season With Two Home Matches

10/19/2022 5:15:00 PM

The final weekend of the regular season will start Thursday, when UIC hosts Indiana State in the first of two matches that will determine the Flames' postseason fate.

The Flames are in fourth place in the Valley, in position to host a tournament match by just one point.  With Belmont, Murray State, and Drake nipping at their heels, the Flames can guarantee a top-four seed with wins Thursday and Sunday.  UIC can finish as high as third, but will need to take care of business against the Sycamores for that to remain a possibility.

UIC had its five-match unbeaten streak snapped on Sunday in a 1-0 loss to Missouri State.  The Flames outshot the first-place Bears, and put eight shots on goal for the fourth straight match.  Only a season high in saves by Missouri State kept the Flames from a result.

The Flames have not lost, nor surrendered a goal, at home in Valley play.  A win or draw against Indiana State would tie the program single-season record for consecutive home matches without a loss.  UIC has never had a single-season streak of keeping its sheet clean longer than the 298:46 it is currently on.

Indiana State has lost its last three matches, all via shutout.  They sport a 2-4-2 record in Valley play.  Ella Gorrie is the lone Sycamore with multiple goals this season.  Two keepers have evenly split the playing time.  Tara Hoffman has the better goals-against average and save percentage of the two, but Maddie Alexander has more wins to her credit.

Thursday's match will begin at 6:00 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
